A university degree - any major
                      A three-year college with degree(B.A, B.S, BFA) - any major
(It's not mandatory for the Canada inbound tutors.)

Teacher's Procedure

  • After two way initiation of contact using listed information, you and future employer will have job interview and negotiate the contract conditions through e-mail and telephone.
  • If you accept the position, employer will send you a contract for you to sign and fax back.
Emplyer will request you to prepare and send the required documents for E-2 Visa
    by DHL or Fedex also.
  • After the employer get the required documents, he or she will submit them to immigration
to get you a visa letter - also know as "Certificate for Conformation of Visa Issuance".
It's basically a blue form from the Korean immigration office that says you are eligible for an E-2 work visa. It usually only takes two days to get but can take up to a week.
  • After employer get the visa letter from immigration, he or she will send it back to you via DHL express mail (sometimes with airline tickets).
  • Once you receive your "visa letter" from employer, take it to the nearest consulate ,
don't forget to take your passport with you, and the Consulate will stamp your visa
in your passport. There is a fee so you'll have to call the consulate and check about the exact fee before going there. You'll be able to pick up your passport the next morning.
If you have to mail your passport to the Korean consulate you'll need to include a check or money order for the cost of visa plus a Self-Addressed Stamped Envelop.
  • Now you can pick up your ticket from the airline with your visa in your hand if you haven't recevied them yet. Pack your bag and get on the plane. The school will pick you up at the airport and take you to your apartment and the school.

Working Visa (E-2 Visa)

In order to be an ESL teacher in Korea, you must obtain a E-2 work visa.
You already have been told about the qualification for an ESL teacher and that's the same
qualification for E-2 Visa.

After acquiring E-2 Visa, you can teach in an English language school, public schools and language centers for a year, which can be renewed.

You are not allowed to work in a company with an E-2 teaching visa or have a part time job.

  • Your original diploma or notarized copy of your diploma
  • Transcripts
  • 4 passort size pictures
  • A copy of your passport
  • Resume

These are required by the government to get the E-2 working visa.

If you want to terminate your contract, you need a letter of release from your employer.
Then you can sign another contract and you don't have to travel to Japan for another visa.
Your visa will be transferred to the new school.
If you leave then you can't come back until after your contract has expired.

You should give your boss a notice two months before you leave as your boss needs time to find a replacement.

If you want to know more detailed information, you can visit the Immigration Bureau Website.
